Wisconsin Angus Association
Board of Directors Meeting
Marda Angus Farms
August 14, 2007
The meeting was called to order by President Tony Weber. Those present were: Dave Horstmeyer, Aaron Galbreath, Leslie Mindemann, Jim Hawthorne, Jim Ward, Kathy Miller, Tony Weber, Dan Downing, Tom Tomaw, Kevin Konkol and Ardel Quam.
Secretary report: Ward moved to accept the minutes from the May 1, 2007, meeting. Tomaw seconded the motion carried.
Treasurer report: Tomaw moved to accept the financial statement. Mindemann seconded the motion. Motion carried. It was decided to evaluate at the November meeting what to do with that money. A thought is to give some of this money to the Wisconsin Foundation in preparation for the next national junior show that Wisconsin hosts.
Old business: Web Page - Mindemann has a new person at Angus Journal to work with. Wondering if all the pictures we have on the home page it is affecting how long it is loading for people with dial-up service. Current events on the home page might be a nice addition. Hit trends /summary from the Angus Journal for our Web site was discussed. This report was passed around for everyone to see. Konkol and Mindemann will work on this for the next meeting.
State Preview Show: Kind gave his report on the day. Show ran well and timely. Kind wondered if a different award for the divisions - some families received more than 1 hat.
Farm Tech Days: Hawthorne feels everything is in order. He is continuing to work on it. Cattlemen to Cattlemen will be filming on the 19th in the beef tent.
Annual Meeting: in progress.
New business: Field Day – Hawthorne has been in contact with Bayers. They will be doing a mailing to all members. Quam will send the list of membership to them for the mailing. Plans for the day include a noon meal and a tour of their meat plant. It will be listed in the newsletter. And can be put it on the Web site.
World Beef Expo: Mindemann announced that she is looking for help in the ring show day. Konkol has priced a coat and plaque for Jim Murray at $80. These will be given to Jim during the WBE Angus show. He will also receive a lifetime membership in the WAA. These are in appreciation of all his help to the WAA over the years. Konkol will have these at the show. Exhibitor party - Ward moved to give WBE $1000 for the party. Downing seconded the motion. Motion carried. Discussion on how the sale was going. Some ideas to help with the organization for future sales were discussed. These types of items will be listed on the calendar of events on the Web site. Have the entry blanks in the state directory with the due date and also list in the calendar.
Angus Tour in Illinois: Contact Quam if any goes and wants reimbursement for the registration and part of the hotel cost.
Feeder Calf Sale: More discussion and information - nothing was decided.
Wisconsin Auxiliary: They are working on having a royalty function for all the breed ambassadors at WBE. At a recent auxiliary meeting they increased their scholarship awards to the graduating seniors. Auxiliary members will help in the showring at WBE as the royalty is showing and the ambassadors will have some guidance. They are also making changes to gift boxes they sell at holiday time. The cheeses will be available in colors to match other breeds, hoping to entice those breeders in to buying these boxes and giving them as gifts. Kegley Show Supplies has offered to have a spot available at their booth to promote these.
Seeing no further business, Downing moved to adjourn the meeting. Ward seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be November 6, 2007, place to be determined.
Respectfully submitted,
Ardel Quam,
Secretary
