March 17, 2007
The meeting was called to order by President Tony Weber. Those present were: Leslie Mindemann, Jim Hawthorne, Jim Ward, David Horstmeyer, Kathy Miller, Tony Weber, Scott Gaffney, Jeff Kind, Dan Downing, Tom Tomaw, Aaron Galbreath, Kelsi Retallick and Ardel Quam.
Secretary report: Ward to accept the minutes from the meetings before and the after annual meeting. Mindemann seconded the motion carried.
Treasurer report: Downing moved to accept the financial statement. Mindemann seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Old business: Annual meeting-Ward moved to have the annual meeting January 26, 2008. We will talk to The Pines again for the meeting and perhaps work on a better price.
Spring sale: Tomaw thanked everyone for their work on the sale. Some animals were put in the catalog that were not supposed to be. Those animals will not be charged a catalog fee. Some radio advertising was done in the Lancaster area. The sale committee will look at getting the sale catalog on the WAA Web site. Mindemann will check and see if it will be cost effective for future sales.
New business: Spring preview show judge- Weber opened the floor for nominations. The following were nominated: Kevin Cassady, Dean Janssen, and Tyler Rhode. Nominations were closed. Hand voting took place. The order of selection is as follows: Kevin Cassady 1st choice, Tyler Rhode 2nd and Dean Janssen 3rd.
Committees: Kind as spring preview show chairman will take the judge selections and contact them in the above order.
State fair committee: Horstmeyer will be the chairman and Gaffney will be on the committee. Ward will be on the membership committee. Weber enforced to the board that board members should not be afraid to ask some WAA members to help them out.
2007 meeting schedule WAA board of directors have been meeting May, August and November. Tuesdays have worked. Time of the meeting will be 7:00 and tentatively at the UW Arlington building. May 1, August 14, and November 6. The dates will be posted on the Web site calendar.
Question was raised about requiring the bulls be semen checked for the spring sale bulls. Tomaw moved to have all bulls 12 months of age in the WAA sale have a semen certificate and any bull under 12 months have a breeding guarantee. Downing seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Banner for the association- the board had talked about getting one of these printed to use at the different association functions. Mindemann passed out 2 different looks for a banner. The cost would be about $150. One concern would be who would look after it and keep track of it. Ward moved to do an Angus banner and the secretary take care of it. Horstmeyer seconded the motion. Motion carried. A hand vote was taken to decide which banner design to order. The design featuring the Angus figure was chosen. The sign size will be about 8 foot by 3 foot. Mindemann sent out an e-mail to board members about the Angus influence calf sales. She has talked to Cassady about the basics for getting started. The first or biggest problem is the small number that we would have to work with. This will be a work in progress.
Wisconsin State Fair: The Angus show will be in the afternoon on Saturday August 4. One plus will be that the show will have half of the coliseum floor.
Field day will be hosted by Country Lane Farm September 15, 2007.
WJAA will be hosting a LEAD conference in LaCrosse and have invited Iowa and Minnesota to participate. They will have a board meeting at 11:00 before the sale.
Seeing no further business, Ward moved to adjourn the meeting. Gaffney seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Ardel Quam,
Secretary
