Wisconsin Angus Association
Board of Directors Meeting

December 28, 2015
Conference Call

The meeting was called to order by President Justin Diefenbach. Those present were: Justin Diefenbach, Jenny Kilpatrick, Bart Mitchell, Sue Finley, Allison Hawthorne, Jim Hawthorne, Courtney Jentz, Mark Schmidt, Leslie Mindemann, Mel Niemann, Glen Davis, Brian Nodolf, Cody Quam and Ardel Quam.

Secretary report: Mindemann moved to accept the minutes from the September meeting. Finley seconded the motion, motion carried.

Treasurer report: Report given covering September through November. Niemann moved to accept the report. Kilpatrick seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Old Business: State directory: almost done will be printing 1750 the same number as last year. It will be the same page count as the 2015 issue. Will try to get some to the National Western Show. They will be at the annual meeting and can be used at the booth the WAA can have at the trade show.

Insurance: Mindemann expressed her concern about having an agent to be able to work with. Do we want to shop around for a new policy? It would be nice to get an umbrella policy that would cover all 3 organizations. Kilpatrick voiced her concern about keeping the insurance close to the secretary address as she does all the business with them. Quam reported that she had contacted the Neckerman Agency in Madison about getting a quote and was waiting for that at this time. A board member questioned whether Chris Thorson was an insurance agent and he might be able to direct us

New Business: Annual Meeting: The Wisconsin Angus Association annual meeting will be February 6, 2016, at the Wilderness, Wisconsin Dells. Kilpatrick wondered if the WJAA had discussed having some activities for younger children attending with their parents. She felt it would help with attendance if members would have a place for their kids during the WAA meeting. This was something she had brought up at the last meeting. J Hawthorne would like to see if the 2 meetings could be in closer rooms to make it easier for those attending.

Mindemann moved to have finger food and an open bar after the meeting as a chance to socialize with fellow members. Mitchell seconded the motion. Mindemann amended the motion to include giving each paid membership 2 drink tickets. Mitchell agreed to the amendment to the motion. Kilpatrick seconded the amendment. The amended motion was voted on and passed. President Diefenbach wanted to know the board thoughts on having a speaker at the meeting. The idea of getting the new CEO of the American Angus Association would be a great way to introduce him to Wisconsin and our membership to the American association. Diefenbach will contact either Casey Jentz or directly to the American Angus Association to see if this is possible. Mindemann shared that the American Auxiliary has produced a video about the history of their organization. It runs 5-10 minutes. AV equipment would be necessary to show it but could be used during the day. She will check into the possibility of doing this.

Fund Raising during the annual meeting: Davis is the chairman Finley offered to help him. Nominations for board members: Quam is off this year, Finley, Nuttelman and Nodolf are eligible to run again and all have said they would be interested in doing so. Nuttelman and Thorson are the nominating committee.

Committee Reports: Budget: Mindemann and Kilpatrick will be meeting and will have a budget for 2016 to vote on at the next board meeting.

Auxiliary: Scholarship deadline is January 15, 2016 which is coming up soon. Also reminded everyone about the ambassador program which is for kids ages 11-20.

Other Business: Finley reported that she has been told the Spring Preview Show held in Jefferson will be June 4, 2016. That would mean the Open Preview Show would be June 5th. Her concern is the closeness to the Southwest Angus Show and how many schools will still be going- if that will hinder entries. No one had a real good answer, by general agreement nothing will be done changing the dates or location this year.

Next meeting: February 6, 2016 at 11:30 at the Wilderness Resort, Wisconsin Dells.

Seeing no further business Kilpatrick moved to adjourn the meeting. Niemann seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ardel Quam,
Secretary
